Ioannis Charisiadis graduated with an Integrated Master’s Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) in 2021. He further pursued a Master of Science (MSc) in Data Engineering and Analytics at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), completing his studies in June 2025. His Master’s thesis, titled “Counterfactual Medical Image Generation”, focused on the application of generative models in medical imaging. More specifically, he explored how patient characteristics such as age and disease severity affect medical images. He also worked on a similar project called ‘Latent Drifting in Diffusion Models for Counterfactual Medical Image Synthesis’ that was accepted at CVPR 2025. Moreover, during his academic journey, he gained practical experience as a Working Student at ZEISS Medical Technology in Munich. In August 2025, Ioannis joined the qurAl Research Group at the University of Amsterdam as a PhD Candidate. His PhD research is focused on the applications of deep learning in ultrasound imaging under the supervision of Prof. Navchetan Awasthi and Prof. Clarissa Sanchez.
