The Gastrointestinal lab aims at developing and bringing AI solutions for the analysis of gastrointestinal disorders or diseases. We develop novel AI solutions for the detection and quantification of abnormalities through image analysis.

One of our current projects focuses on the early detection of dysplasia in Barrett’s esophagus. Barrett’s esophagus is a precancerous condition in which the normal squamous lining of the distal esophagus is replaced by columnar epithelium, increasing the risk of progression to adenocarcinoma. Using modern AI algorithms on whole-slide images of surveillance biopsies, we highlight subtle tissue changes indicative of early dysplasia and generate objective risk scores to enable more timely clinical intervention.
