Bob de Vos was invited for podcast 12 of Radiology: Cardiothoracic Imaging. Together with Praveen Ranganath to have an in-depth discussion about the recent publication ‘Deep Learning–Quantified Calcium Scores for Automatic Cardiovascular Mortality Prediction at Lung Screening Low-Dose CT’.
In this publication, a method was presented for the prediction of risk of death using only imaging information from lung-screening low-dose CT images. Low-dose chest CT images are used to screen for lung cancer in high-risk individuals such as heavy smokers, but these images also provide an opportunity to screen for cardiovascular disease by extracting information about calcification in the heart and aorta.
